Prague Sights, Sounds and Hotels

Built as one of Prague's main gateways, the Old Town Powder Tower marks the start of the Royal Route, which, in medieval times, was the path for the procession of Bohemian monarchs en-route to their coronation in St Vitus Cathedral, Prague Castle. Originally intended as a protective tower, it was eventually used as a gunpowder storehouse instead, and thus was named the "Powder Tower". Franz Kafka and his writer friend, Max Brod, used the Old Town Powder Tower as a meeting place in the early 20th century. There is a statue of King Premvsl Otakar 11 on the west side of the tower, and beneath it is an uncouth relief that reflects that that even in those times girls had to fight off young men’s unwanted advances.

Prague is so full of beautiful historical architecture that the entire city centre is a highlight, but still Prague's Old Powder Tower stands out amoung the rest. You will find also that the marvellous Prague hotels stand out as well and will ensure that your stay is a successful one.
