The Imperial War Museum Duxford is notorious for the180 historic aircraft on show, of which many of the biplanes, Spitfires, Concorde and Gulf War jets still fly. The seven acres of indoor exhibition includes a collection of tanks and military vehicles that outranks any other collection in England. It preserves its wartime atmosphere and over 400,000 visitors come to Duxford annually to the Imperial War Museum where Elizabeth II opened the American Air Museum in the summer of 1997 which houses Europe's finest collection of historic American combat aircraft, and is the largest precast concrete structure in Europe where many of the planes are dramatically suspended from the ceiling as if in flight.
