Bath Sights, Sounds and Hotels

Bath Abbey was built in 1499 and, being in a Roman city, was simply a late arrival. England's first King was crowned in a church that had stood in the same location for thousands of years. The Abbey was Britain’s very last Tudor church built before the Reformation, and the dream of Bishop Oliver King, who was responsible for its construction, is carved on the front. In his dream, angels climbed up and down a ladder leading to heaven, but the carving depicts the angels on their way down the ladder going head first as that was the only way that the stonemasons could differentiate between them. The Bishops name was also symbolized in his dream by an olive surrounded by a crown, and this also appears in the carving.

Bath Abbey is of course a must see when touring the historic city of Bath, but it's the fabulous Bath hotels that will see your return.
